3BMG Forms Joint Venture With Octopean Media To Leverage IP
By Peter White
EXCLUSIVE: 3BMG, the production group behind series including 3 Ball Productions’ Bar Rescue and Jeff Jenkins’ Bling Empire, is looking to bolster its IP outside of traditional television after forming a joint venture with Jeff Goldman’s Octopean Media.
The deal will see Goldman look to “optimize” 3BMG’s intellectual property for film, TV, short-form content, books, sports, games and brands, looking at new content distribution platforms, licensing and merchandising opportunities, brand partnerships and integrations, and gaming applications. The joint venture will also work with IP outside of 3BMG.
Goldman is a former WME agent, who has worked at companies including Premier Digital and Eyeworks.
His current client list includes Mattel, Naked and Afraid producer Renegade83, distribution company Filmrise, restaurateur and chef David Myers and social media character Sock Puppet Master. He is also working with longtime Oprah exec producer Lisa Erspamer on multiple projects involving her book A Letter to My Mom.
Through the JV, 3BMG will provide Goldman and the Octopean team access to its infrastructure, including production and technical services and back-office functions.
3BMG is made up of companies including 3 Ball Productions, Jeff Jenkins Productions, and Superluna Studios.
Goldman said, “Obviously, there’s been a huge shift in the media and content industry, and everyone is focused on business models that can thrive in a ‘new normal.’ Octopean was built to explore and leverage ancillary revenue streams for rights holders – strategically, aggressively and with a brand-first approach – which is critical for companies looking to monetize the full scope of their IP. My friends and colleagues at 3BMG are 100% aligned with this effort and their support is helping us supercharge our capabilities and allowing us to level up for our clients in every category.”
3BMG CEO Ross Weintraub added, “3BMG is home to driven and innovative entrepreneurs and creatives, and Jeff and the Octopean team are no exception. They’re expanding their client roster and project slate every day, a testament to Octopean’s mission and vitality.”
3BMG Chairman Reinout Oerlemans said, “Jeff and I have a 15-year working relationship building global business opportunities. He often sees things other people don’t, which makes his approach to distribution and business development so effective. We couldn’t be happier to be in business with Octopean Media.”
