Deadline – ‘The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives’ Star Jessi Draper Praises Hulu & Producers For Production Break, Hopes To Resume Shooting Soon

Jessi Draper has had a busy few weeks: her reality show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has paused production, she is getting divorced and one of her best friends had her season of The Bachelorette shelved as a result of a domestic assault investigation.

Draper, who recently signed with CAA, took to the Call Her Daddy couch to discuss the filming break on the Hulu show and unpacked the timeline.

During the interview with Alex Cooper’s hit podcast, Draper revealed that the producers of the show – the series is produced by Jeff Jenkins Productions – initially paused shooting and then the group, which also includes Jen Affleck, Miranda Hope, Whitney Leavitt, Mikayla Matthews, Mayci Neeley and Layla Taylor, made their own decision before the latest video of Taylor Frankie Paul throwing metal stools at Dakota Mortensen emerged.

“Me and the girls, we did decide to stop filming when we found this out because we were starting to hear things a little bit before it leaked. We just didn’t want to be filming and say the wrong thing on camera, not knowing the full story yet. We didn’t want to have to process all this information for the first time and then also be speaking about it. We just thought for everyone’s mental health, let’s take a beat and let’s not film right now. That’s probably the best thing for everyone in this situation,” she said.

This came after the producers initiated the idea. JJP produces the show in association with 3BMG and Walt Disney Television Alternative.

Draper was full of praise for the production team and Hulu over the way it handled the fallout.

“Before I went on reality TV [everyone] was like be careful, producers are slimy. That may be the case for some people. I genuinely love my production like they’re family. Production, network, they have been incredible to us. They paused things for a minute because I think they were like, ‘We care about you guys as people’,” she added.

She said the group then picked back up but soon decided to pause again after they discovered that Mortensen had filed a police report.
